THE South West Acute Hospital (SWAH) has been playing a "pivotal role" in supporting Altnagelvin following a fire at the Londonderry acute facility on Friday night.
According to Joe Lusby, Deputy Chief Executive of the Western Health and Social Care Trust (Western Trust) a number of patients from the Fermanagh and Tyrone areas were transferred to SWAH over the past few days.
"On Friday evening the South West Acute Hospital activated its emergency plan in support of Altnagelvin Hospital. Staff from all specialities and disciplines responded to the emergency plan activation and remained onsite until the plan was deactivated.
"A number of patients from the Fermanagh and Tyrone areas have been transferred to the South West Acute Hospital over the past few days. This will continue as the Trust progressively moves towards normal activity at Altnagelvin.
"Community teams in the Omagh and Fermanagh areas are also supporting Altnagelvin's patient flow plans by ensuring patients can return home as quickly as possible."
"I would like to thank all South West Acute Hospital staff and community based staff in the Omagh and Fermanagh areas for the continued support they give to their Altnagelvin colleagues."
